Privacy policy — VCompressor

Last updated: 2026-10-09.

Photos and local processing

VCompressor reads photos, videos and Live Photos that you allow it to access in Apple Photos. Compression takes place on your device. The app saves separate copies in Photos; it does not change the originals. Live Photo conversion creates a still photo without its motion or sound. Deleting an original requires your confirmation and moves it to Recently Deleted.

The app preserves supported metadata, including capture date, location and favorite status. Location embedded in a photo or video can remain in the saved copy.

iCloud and network access

VCompressor has no developer-operated server and does not upload your media to us. If an original is stored only in iCloud, Apple Photos may download it when you request compression or a preview. This requires network access and device storage. Opening the privacy or support page uses your browser and its network connection; the website has its own hosting infrastructure.

Local storage and diagnostics

Metadata caches, compression history, settings and unfinished jobs are stored on your device. History and recovery records remain across app updates. Local diagnostic logs contain app/device context, timings, error categories and shortened asset identifiers, without media names, paths or raw Photos identifiers. You can clear logs or export them yourself. Exported logs are shared only with the recipient you choose; sharing a report with support discloses its contents to us.

Exports contain an aggregate summary by default: app version, platform and OS version, history count, size reduction of saved copies and available storage. Detailed logs must be enabled separately for the current Settings session. You can inspect a report before sending it.

If you voluntarily send diagnostics to support, we receive performance data and other diagnostic information to troubleshoot the issue. The report can be linked to your email address and support request; it is not treated as anonymous. We use it for support and error resolution, not advertising or tracking. Sending a report is not required to use the app.

Data collection and third-party components

We do not automatically collect personal data, media or diagnostics. The app has no advertising, tracking or analytics SDK. MozJPEG and OxiPNG are bundled open-source components for local image optimization; they do not send media to their authors.

Your choices and contact

You can change or revoke Photos access in system Settings, clear the metadata cache and diagnostic logs in the app, and decide whether to delete each original. Removing the app removes its local app storage; media already saved in Photos remains in Photos.
